Sun City is a master planned, age-restricted community from the Del Webb Company in the Western section of Valley. Begun in the nineteen-sixties, it set the pattern for large scale age restricted retirement communities, even championing some of the precepts upon which they are based in the famous lawsuit Spur Industries v. Webb, 494 P.2d 700 (Ariz. 1972). It also maintains a volunteer registry and Sun City's residents are the Valley's largest volunteer group, leading to the slogan since 1993, "City of Volunteers."
